Soledad City Council took time to honor the Soledad High School Aztecs Girls Soccer Team for winning the Mission Trail Athletic League Championship this year.

All four local high school cross country teams were on the Monterey Peninsula last week with races at Carmel Valley, Monterey, and Pacific Grove.

A 35-14 loss to the ranked Antioch Panthers did not dampen the spirits of the Soledad Aztec football as they fell to 0-2 at the start on non-league play.

Three of the four boys soccer teams from South County were victorious on the soccer pitch and two girls teams won games in non-league play last week. This is the final week of non-league games for the local teams.

The Mission Trial Athletic League leading Carmel Padres defeated the host King City Lady Mustangs last Thursday, 27-1. Carmel outhit King City 20 to 3.

A switch to the Cypress Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League has been positive so far for the Soledad Lady Aztecs volleyball team. With a 7-1 divisional record and 10-7 overall mark, Soledad is staying in league in non-league play.

Cross country runners from all four South County high schools traveled to Toro Regional Park in Salinas to run in the Monterey Bay Invitational.

Change is coming next fall for local high school athletic teams as 33 schools that make up the tri-county area will be realigned to form new divisions as part of the Pacific Coast Athletic League (PCAL).

South County football players took the field for one last time high school players last Friday at the 33rd Annual All-Star High School Football Game at Rabobank Football Stadium in Salinas. Six players from Soledad, two players from Greenfield, two from King City, and one from Gonzales High participated in the game.

The 4-1 Righetti High School Warriors scored six touchdowns to drop the host Soledad Aztec football to 0-4 in non-league games.
