South County teams start season
Sportsmanship basketball games were played last week to kick of the season by the Soledad and Gonzales boys teams and the King City and Greenfield girls teams.
Warrior cheer teams place in Vegas
Three teams representing the Soledad Warrior Youth Football Cheer squads competed at the Jamz Cheer and Dance National Competition in Las Vegas on Jan. 19-22. Soledad placed second in the Midget Division and second in the Jr. Peewee Division. The Peewee cheer squad competed but did not place in the top three.
Spartans win pair from Trinity Christian
The Gonzales High Spartan baseball team completed a two-game series with the Trinity Christian Warriors with a 17-5 home victory on Friday.
Lady Aztec softball ends season
The Soledad High Lady Aztecs completed the season last week with a non-league contest with St. Francis of Watsonville at home and an away game to league foe Santa Catalina.
League wins keep Aztecs at No. 1
A pair of league wins and a non-league victory has the red-hot Soledad Aztec baseball with a 16-4-1 overall record and 12-1-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League.

With the league seasons a month away, local high school basketball teams are traveling near and far to play in non-league contests.

Fort Hunter Liggett hosted its first Wildfire Triathlon this past Saturday, with 40 participants completing the 1/4-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and 5K run.
Council recognizes Soledad baseball champs
Three of the Soledad High School baseball team MTAL champions were recognized by the City Council along with their Coach Damien Ryan and Athletic Director Brian Vazquez on June 6.

All four South County High Schools will be represented at the 33rd Annual All-Star High School Football Game on Friday at Rabobank Football Stadium in Salinas.
