Soledad awarded $88K grant
The City of Soledad has received an $88,444 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration to help improve the local fire department’s facilities and equipment.

Monterey County Pops returns for free veterans concert

Living the suit life
When Laina Babb learned to sew at age 6, she never imagined it would lead her to the opera. She has made her love of sewing into a career, first training and then apprenticing as a tailor. Now, as LA Opera’s head tailor, Babb manages a team of up to six tailors (depending on the show). Together they craft all the men’s suits used in the company’s productions in downtown Los Angeles.

Gonzales student's heritage hog sells for $33K
Gonzales High School FFA Chapter President and Monterey Bay Sectional Reporter Samantha Santos, who was selected as the Monterey County Fair’s 2017 Heritage Scholarship winner, auctioned off two hogs Sept. 2 at the fair, one of which — the heritage hog — sold for more than $33,000.
Surf’s up for youth at camp
