CTE program expanding to South County high schools
                    Students from King City, Greenfield and Soledad high schools are strengthening their career and technical education through South Coast Region Agricultural Education Consortium.                
                
            Gonzales student's heritage hog sells for $33K
                    Gonzales High School FFA Chapter President and Monterey Bay Sectional Reporter Samantha Santos, who was selected as the Monterey County Fair’s 2017 Heritage Scholarship winner, auctioned off two hogs Sept. 2 at the fair, one of which — the heritage hog — sold for more than $33,000.                
                
            Living the suit life
                    When Laina Babb learned to sew at age 6, she never imagined it would lead her to the opera. She has made her love of sewing into a career, first training and then apprenticing as a tailor. Now, as LA Opera’s head tailor, Babb manages a team of up to six tailors (depending on the show). Together they craft all the men’s suits used in the company’s productions in downtown Los Angeles.                
                
            Children’s author visits Scheid Vineyards
                    Monterey County Free Libraries and Scheid Vineyards recently welcomed Roni Capin Rivera-Ashford, who wrote a book about the Disney feature film “Coco.”

                    California Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-San Diego) have announced Assembly Bill 668, the Voting Modernization Bond Act of 2018, which seeks $450 million to improve California’s voting systems.

                    Soledad High School senior Rosie Barroso is the recipient of a $20,000 Lucille Miller Scholarship from Girls Inc. International.

                    The Board of Education of the Soledad Unified School District has announced that it has selected Tim Vanoli, current superintendent of the Salinas Union High School District for the past five years, as its next superintendent starting July 1.
