RUN LIKE WILDFIRE
                    Fort Hunter Liggett hosted its first Wildfire Triathlon this past Saturday, with 40 participants completing the 1/4-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and 5K run.

                    Soledad High varsity thrower Daniel Contawe won the discus and placed second in the shot put at Saturday’s Bill Kearney Track and Field Invitational at Hartnell College in Salinas.             Soledad and Gonzales split league games
                    The Gonzales and Soledad High baseball teams won on the road and lost at home in their Mission Trail Athletic League games last week. Soledad traveled to Gonzales on March 14 and beat the Spartans by an 8-1 tally.                
                
            South County teams start season
                    Sportsmanship basketball games were played last week to kick of the season by the Soledad and Gonzales boys teams and the King City and Greenfield girls teams.                
                
            South County's regular soccer season heats up
                    With a handful of games remaining in the Mission Trail and Coastal League, South County boys and girls teams are playing hard for a shot at a league title or Central Coast Section Playoff spot.                
                
            Perez a headliner at Paso show
                    San Ardo Boxing Club member Kevin Perez was the headliner at the Battle of the Coast Boxing Show that took place in the Kennedy Fitness Club on Saturday, June 10.                
                
            Mustangs keeping pace in league
                    The King City Mustangs are just two games out of first in the Mission Trail Athletic League and trail the second place Soledad Aztecs by just one game.                
                
            Valley of the runners
                    A nice cloud cover protected the lead runners on Saturday during the Salinas Valley Half Marathon that began at the Soledad Mission and finished 13.1 miles later at Pessagno Winery in Gonzales.                
                
            Soledad coach resigns
                    Frankie Berlanga, the four-time Mission Trail Athletic League Coach of the Year who led the Aztecs to two MTAL titles and a Central Coast Section Championship in 2016, resigned last Friday as the Soledad head coach.                
                
            Gonzales Spartans blank Anzar Hawks
                    Spartan pitcher Gonzalo Villagomez allowed only one hit and struckout five in a 3-0 shutout win for Gonzales over the visiting Anzar Hawks of San Juan Bautista.
