Lady Mustangs start season with win
Junior Grace Shepherd finished with 17 kills and senior Megan Flores had 22 assists as the King City Lady Mustangs won their season opener 3-0 over the host Alisal High Trojans last Thursday in the Mustang Gym.
Half Marathon resumes Saturday
Hundreds of runners and walkers will take to South County backroads on Saturday to take part in the eighth annual Salinas Valley Half Marathon the will start at the Soledad Mission and finish at Pessagno Winery on 1645 River Road.
Aztecs win league crown
The Soledad High Aztec baseball team left no doubt who was the champion in the Mission Trail Athletic League as they won the league title with a 16-2 record.

Two victories last week improved the Soledad High volleyball teams record to 3-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League and 5-3 overall. Other South County teams, however, suffered losses this past week.

The Soledad High boy soccer team will play in the first round of the Central Coast Section Division II Playoffs today at 7 pm in Soledad.
Local athletes place at North Salinas
Track and field athletes from King City and Gonzales High School competed Saturday in the North Salinas Invitational and Relays Meet at North Salinas High School in Salinas.
Soledad wins Tournament of Champions
On Sunday, June 18, the Soledad Minor Giants won the Tournament of Champion Minor title, beating Hollister-American 18-6 in the finals.
All-League Coastal team announced
Greenfield High School quarterback Andy Hernandez was voted the Back of the Year of the Mission Trail Athletic League Division. Hernandez, a senior exhibited his versatility on the field gaining over 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards passing for the season.
Grey beats Blue in CTF game
A 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brett Baker to receiver Tony Amezcua in the third quarter held up as the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad Grey football team defeated the CTF Blue team 14-6 at Saturday’s Blue/Grey Game at Greenfield High School.
RUNNING CHAMPS
For the third straight year the Greenfield boys are cross country champions of the Mission Trail Athletic League. The Bruins had five runners earn All-MTAL medals after out running the rest of the field. Greenfield finished first, followed by Pacific Grove and King City.
