Soledad wins in comeback
Angel Olivas scored on a 22-yard pass reception to complete a 24-17 comeback win for the Soledad High Aztecs over the visiting Alisal High Trojans.
San Ardo boxer wins in Modesto
Alvaro Pantoja of the San Ardo Boxing Club won by unanimous decision at the Red Shield Boxing Show in Modesto on Saturday afternoon. Pantoja fought in the 135 pound weight class.
Soledad girls make league's 2nd team
Three members of the Soledad High School softball team were chosen to the Mission Trail Athletic League Softball second team. The Lady Aztec players were Skylah Fregoso, Evelina Ramirez and Celeste Parra.
South County teams start season
Sportsmanship basketball games were played last week to kick of the season by the Soledad and Gonzales boys teams and the King City and Greenfield girls teams.
REACHING HIGH
South County high school athletic teams began observing “dead week” this past Sunday and athletes will have no contact with their coaches until July 30. Football, cross country and volleyball teams will resume regular practice after that date.
Locals place at Monterey Bay Invitational
Cross country runners from all four South County high schools traveled to Toro Regional Park in Salinas to run in the Monterey Bay Invitational.
Greenfield earns State meet berth
The Greenfield boys cross country team placed second in the Central Coast Division III championships on Saturday to earn a trip to the State Meet.

Soledad High had a good week with wins over Watsonville and Stevenson. The Lady Aztecs beat Watsonville 25-23, 25-17, 13-25 and 25-16, and beat the Pirates 25-15, 25-18 and 25-10. Soledad hosted Pajaro Valley on Monday and will host the North Monterey Condors tonight.
Gonzales wrestlers attend banquet
Members of the Gonzales High School wrestling team and their coaches and families gathered for a banquet and awards night last Wednesday in the school cafeteria.
Loss snaps Aztecs' win streak
six-game league win streak ended for the Soledad boys basketball team as the lost 69-53 last Friday at home against the first-place Carmel Padres. The Aztecs fell to 7-4 in the Mission Trail Athletic League after the loss and are now 10-11 overall.
