South County football players took the field for one last time high school players last Friday at the 33rd Annual All-Star High School Football Game at Rabobank Football Stadium in Salinas. Six players from Soledad, two players from Greenfield, two from King City, and one from Gonzales High participated in the game.
Gonzales Spartans blank Anzar Hawks
Spartan pitcher Gonzalo Villagomez allowed only one hit and struckout five in a 3-0 shutout win for Gonzales over the visiting Anzar Hawks of San Juan Bautista.

Soledad High had a good week with wins over Watsonville and Stevenson. The Lady Aztecs beat Watsonville 25-23, 25-17, 13-25 and 25-16, and beat the Pirates 25-15, 25-18 and 25-10. Soledad hosted Pajaro Valley on Monday and will host the North Monterey Condors tonight.

Half Marathon resumes Saturday
Hundreds of runners and walkers will take to South County backroads on Saturday to take part in the eighth annual Salinas Valley Half Marathon the will start at the Soledad Mission and finish at Pessagno Winery on 1645 River Road.
League wins keep Aztecs at No. 1
A pair of league wins and a non-league victory has the red-hot Soledad Aztec baseball with a 16-4-1 overall record and 12-1-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
Canchola and Johnson earn spots on All-League team
Senior players Celeste Canchola of Soledad High and Lauren Johnson of King City High were chosen to the Mission Trail Athletic League first-team at a meeting of league coaches.
Karate students take exams in Greenfield
Shotokan Karate students from Soledad, San Luis Obispo and Greenfield took karate exams for the first time ever in Greenfield.
RUNNING CHAMPS
For the third straight year the Greenfield boys are cross country champions of the Mission Trail Athletic League. The Bruins had five runners earn All-MTAL medals after out running the rest of the field. Greenfield finished first, followed by Pacific Grove and King City.
Runners compete in MTAL Center Meet
In a preview of the upcoming Mission Trail Athletic League Cross Country Championships, the Greenfield boys teams won the varsity boys, JV boys and frosh boys divisions.
