Soledad Unified School District is losing one of its own, 26-year staff member Jorge Guzman, who has served in many capacities over the years and will be celebrating his final day at the district on Sept. 29.

Hartnell Community College District hosted a ceremony last Thursday at its King City Education Center to welcome 31 students from South County who are part of the second cohort of the Teacher Pathway Program.

Cheers, games, dancing and more kicked off Soledad High School’s Week of Welcome, also known as WOW, which ended Aug. 24 as students came together for a rally.
Commute to success
Martin Alfaro traveled for three hours almost daily with his sister Maria and brother Dan from Soledad to San Luis Obispo, where all three were attending school at California Polytechnic State University. Alfaro graduated June 18.
Loudpack Farms is now Greenfield’s largest employer
Loudpack Farms has now become the largest single employer in Greenfield with the recent opening of its cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility, and more jobs are expected to be created soon.

Softball and baseball games can now call Jesse Gallardo Park home as the park reopened with two softball fields and one baseball field April 7.
Class of 2017: Let’s celebrate!
Soledad High School handed out diplomas to 332 students during the graduation ceremony June 10 for the Class of 2017.
New housing causes concerns
With housing in high demand, Soledad City Council met for a special meeting Oct. 23 to discuss adding an additional 1,318 single-family residential lots to the San Vicente West Specific Plan.
