The Soledad High School has something special that the rest of the South County high schools don’t: the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC).

The American Red Cross is vacating the building it has rented for many years on Fifth Street in Hollister in favor of a smaller, less expensive administrative office about one-half block away on San Benito Street.

At the last Soledad City Council meeting, the council and mayor came together to honor local staff for National Public Works Week, which runs from May 21 to 27.

Cheers, games, dancing and more kicked off Soledad High School’s Week of Welcome, also known as WOW, which ended Aug. 24 as students came together for a rally.

The time has come again for the YMCA Healthy Kids Day Event. This year the event will be on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and as usual it is free to everyone in South County and open to all ages.

A new police survey was sent out to residents of Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield and King City on Aug. 21 as part of the Strengthening Law Enforcement and Community Relations grant.

Soledad-Mission Chamber of Commerce has come to a decision on the 2016 Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year winners, in addition to the honorees for Friend of the Community and the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award.
