Summer is a week away and the South County YMCA is bringing activities for youth through its Summer Day Camp program, starting June 10.

The school year has begun, and that means new teachers have started at several Soledad schools, including Rose Ferrero and Jack Franscioni elementary schools.

This year’s Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Animal, a 255-pound hog raised by Alexandria Burgess of Hilltown 4-H Club, was sold for $470 per pound, bringing in roughly $119,850 for the Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation during last Saturday’s Junior Livestock Auction at the fairgrounds in King City.

Southern Monterey County Rural Coalition (SMCRC) will host its seventh annual Town Hall event Friday, March 23, at 6 p.m. at the San Antonio Valley Community Center in Lockwood.

Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association (MCCA) and the Salinas Valley Fair (SVF) have teamed up to produce a Ranch Rodeo competition. The event will take place Sunday, Jan. 14, in the Rava Indoor Arena located at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.

Last Saturday the Monterey County Agricultural and Rural Life Museum, better known as MCARLM, held its 10th Annual Holiday Open House, opening its doors for the public to explore the museum and the many exhibits while enjoying homemade soups and eating holiday cookies and treats.
