With the new fiscal year entering its fourth month, Soledad city officials are seeking to make this year one that focuses efforts on bringing opportunities to the city’s youth population.

The Soledad Historical Society has opened its new display, and locals are taking the opportunity to visit it during the Farmers Market each week.

Last Friday the Soledad Starbucks played host to the first “Coffee with a Cop” event, which let members of the public meet and interact with local officers from the Soledad Police Department.

The Monterey County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency will be hosting a series of five community-based listening sessions designed to help the county assess the effectiveness of its EMS system.

Soledad City Council and Soledad Unified School District Board met Nov. 2 to talk about communication, facilities, future development and more.

Former Miss Salinas Valley Fair Lena Coulson was crowned 2017 Miss California Rodeo Salinas last Thursday during the rodeo’s opening performance, and will represent California Rodeo Salinas at various events around the state over the next year.

Soledad Unified School District will begin the 2017-2018 school year with new Superintendent Tim Vanoli, who received a special welcome during the Soledad City Council meeting Aug. 2.

Plans are underway for changes to the Jesse Gallardo Park, which is home to a baseball field, tennis courts and a large span of grass.
