Football | Aztecs wear down against Mustangs
A physical Monte Vista Christian Mustang football team scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to break open a close game against the host Soledad Aztecs on Friday night at Gene Martin Stadium. The Mustangs downed the Aztecs 34-19 in the Mission Division opener for both teams.
RUNNING CHAMPS
For the third straight year the Greenfield boys are cross country champions of the Mission Trail Athletic League. The Bruins had five runners earn All-MTAL medals after out running the rest of the field. Greenfield finished first, followed by Pacific Grove and King City.
King City continues solid play
With over half the league season completed, the King City Lady Mustangs are in second place in team standings with a 7-1 record. King City won two games last week, defeating the host Carmel Padres 3-1 and beating the Pacific Grove Breakers on the road.
PLAYOFFS BEGIN
Two teams from King City, two teams from Soledad and one team from Gonzales have qualified to play in the semifinals of the California District 9 Little League All-Star Playoffs.
Bruins, Aztec runners place at Hollister
The Greenfield High School and Soledad High School cross country teams came home with team awards and medals for their participation at the Third Annual Dry River Run at Hollister.
Soledad girls win fourth league game
The Soledad High girls softball team scored 11 runs in the top of the second inning on their way to a 14-0 shutout victory over the host Greenfield Bruins last Tuesday afternoon.
Volleyball | Lady Aztecs improve to 5-1 in league
With wins over visiting Robert Louis Stevenson and on the road in Watsonville against the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies, the Soledad High Lady Aztec volleyball team improved to 5-1 in Cypress Divisional play and 8-7 overall.
South County teams start season
Sportsmanship basketball games were played last week to kick of the season by the Soledad and Gonzales boys teams and the King City and Greenfield girls teams.
Greenfield Bruins win battle of bears
An early miscue for a touchdown was quickly forgotten on Saturday as the Greenfield High Bruins outscored the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies 48-0 the rest of the way in a 48-6 season-opener at Cabrillo College in Aptos.
Soledad boys win close game with Hawks
Isaac Lopez and Billy Hollman scored 21 and 22 points each to lead the Soledad Aztec basketball to a 70-64 win against the Oakwood High School Hawks last Tuesday in Morgan Hill.
