Soledad teacher sentenced for having sex with student

SOLEDAD — A former Soledad High School teacher was sentenced this week to 280 days in county jail and three years of probation for having unlawful sexual intercourse with an underage student, announced Monterey County District Attorney Dean D. Flippo.

Alexander Luna Salazar, 30, a teacher employed at Soledad High School during the 2015-2016 school year, had pleaded no contest March 21 to two felonies regarding contact with a 17-year-old student for the purpose of committing a sexual offense and having sex with the same student at his home in Greenfield.

SALAZAR

At the May 2 sentencing hearing, Judge Julie R. Culver told Salazar that he “failed at the greatest responsibility bestowed upon a teacher.” Culver said he not only took advantage of a student’s trust but violated the trust every parent has when they entrust their greatest gifts, their children, to the care of a teacher.

In addition to jail time and probation, Salazar was also sentenced to lifetime sex registration, sexual offender treatment, ordered to have no contact with the victim, stay 100 yards away from the perimeter of Soledad High, not be alone with any child under age 18 unless another responsible adult is present and is prohibited from possessing electronic password-protected devices and must submit to a search of any electronic devices when asked by law enforcement or a probation officer.
