Soledad hosts star-spangled spectacle

SOLEDAD — Soledad celebrated America’s independence last Thursday with a children’s parade, live music, food booths, bounce houses and other family-friendly activities at Little League Park.

The 23rd annual Fourth of July celebration in Soledad kicked off with the Star Spangled Children’s Parade, which began at the new Main Street Middle School building and continued down North Street to the park.

The walking parade was led by members of the Soledad High School NJROTC and featured local youth and their families donning patriotic attire.

Awards were given to the best-dressed participants, including the Soledad-Mission Recreation District Cheer Camp, which was named “Best Patriotic Group.” Local students Isaac Pizano, 12, and Cielo Huff-Hernandez, 5, were awarded this year’s “Best-Dressed Boy” and “Best-Dressed Girl,” respectively.

The NJROTC also presented the flags, and music was provided by Every Day People Band and Grupo DzzAfio Norteno. Sonshine Clowns offered balloon creations and magic in the afternoon, in addition to several games and prizes for those partaking in the day’s festivities.

The evening culminated with the city’s fireworks show at dusk.
