SOLEDAD — A fatal hit-and-run accident left 82-year-old Rafael Monarres Cardenas lying in the middle of San Vicente Road in the early morning hours of Friday, July 28.
According to Soledad Police, Cardenas was crossing San Vicente Road northbound when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound at about 5:36 a.m. The suspect vehicle stopped momentarily before turning right onto northbound Front Street and fleeing the scene.
Officers and paramedics responded to the area and located Cardenas, who was conscious and lying in the middle of the road. Paramedics administered first aid and transported him to Natividad Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
During the investigation, Soledad Police officers located footage of the accident. The suspect vehicle is a small, blue, older model, single-cab pickup, and the vehicle should have left front-end damage.
The investigation is ongoing.
