James Forrest

SOLEDAD – James (Jim) Forrest, 97, passed away quietly on April 13, 2017, at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad, CA.

Jim was born on February 3, 1920 in Hammond, IN. He was raised in Paola, KS and graduated from the University of Iowa Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in accounting and business.

Jim married Shirley Kauffman and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and Shirley lived in CA, MD, Paris, Brussels, and London before Shirley’s untimely death at age 52. He married his second wife, Arlene Wyatt, in England before returning to CA.

Jim’s working career included 50 years of management and executive experience in airline and aerospace corporations where he specialized in international finance. His last job was treasurer of Habitat For Humanity in the west Phoenix area of AZ. In his off-hours, Jim loved to attend Broadway musicals, travel abroad, and see
Yosemite in spring. After Arlene’s passing in AZ, Jim lived close to his son’s family in WA and eventually Soledad,
CA.

At Eden Valley Care Center, Jim had been failing for some time, but always retained his sense of humor and gentlemanly ways. We will miss him and cherish our memories of the smart, accomplished, funny, and fun-loving man we all knew and loved.

Jim leaves his son Allan (Kathy), daughter Terry Young (Doug); granddaughters Carrie Meyer (Brent), Amanda Borgida (Ross), Megann Young-Lewis (Robert); grandson Adam Forrest; and six great grandchildren.

There will be a private family service.

Arrangements by Struve and Laporte Chapel.
