Fun-filled day set for Soledad Fourth of July

SOLEDAD — The Fourth of July is coming and is shaping up to be a fun-filled day, starting just before noon and ending with a fireworks show.

The Star Spangled Banner will start the day of festivities and will be led by returning parade leaders, Soledad High School’s NJROTC. According to Committee Member Pauline Tomasini, the parade is open to girls and boys clubs, ball clubs and other groups. Parade-goers will start lining up at Main Street Middle School at 11:30 a.m. with the parade starting at noon.

“Dole is going to have their antique utility truck on display and Smokey the Bear,” said Tomasini.

After the parade makes its way down North Street, the NJROTC will raise the flag and Soledad High School incoming senior Alicia Massa will sing the National Anthem. There will be children and adult games at the Little League Park along with two bands entertaining the crowd. Clowns will make an appearance as well as South County Jumpers will be bringing about four jump houses.

“Come on out and have fun,” Tomasini said. “Bring your picnic lunches.”

The evening will end with the fireworks display at dusk. The annual display is run by Pyro Spectaculars and costs about $18,000 to put on the show.

In the past week, the Fourth of July committee received a donation from the South County Aztecs soccer team, and many other community members and organizations have donated to the cause. Currently the fireworks “Hometown Spirit Challenge” thermometer is at $8,800, and the community still needs donations to pay for this year’s show and for future fireworks shows.
