Eligio “Leo” Urquidez, 96, of Soledad, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
Leo was born November 20, 1921 in Texas and had been a resident of Soledad for almost 80 years. He served in the US Army during WWII and was employed in agriculture for many Salinas valley companies, retiring in the mid 1980’s. He was a proud life member of the NRA and greatly enjoyed boxing, the outdoors, hunting, and caring for his beloved pet dogs.
He is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, numerous grand nieces and nephews; brother, Ernest Urquidez of Lathrop; and his loving dog, Cindy. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Cruz & Josefina Urquidez; sisters, Marie “Tillie” Urquidez, Dimas Loya; brother-in-law, Mike Loya; partner, Sarah “Chawa” Bustamante.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at Woodyard Funeral Home, followed with rosary at 7 pm. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11 am at the Soledad Cemetery District, where military rites will be conducted.
