Arts Council announces Fine Arts Calendar artist receptions

SUBMITTED ARTICLE

SALINAS — The Arts Council for Monterey County will host two receptions to celebrate the artists whose artwork is featured in its 2018 Fine Arts Calendar Celebrating Monterey County.

The first reception takes place Friday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Monterey Coast Brewing Banquet Room, 165 Main St. in Salinas, as part of Downtown Salinas’ First Friday Art Walk. The second reception takes place Friday, Oct. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the American Tin Cannery, 125 Ocean View Blvd. in Pacific Grove, as part of the Third Friday Art Walk at ArtWorks Pacific Grove.

The 2018 Fine Arts Calendar Artists Receptions are the culmination of a months-long process to create the calendar. Back in the spring, the Arts Council for Monterey County created a call to local artists asking for artwork that depicted Monterey County’s diverse communities. A committee comprised of Ernesto Altamirano, Laurie Bend and Laurie Myers selected the finalists.

Artists featured in the calendar are: Marvin L. Anderson (painter), Paola Fiorelle Berthoin (painter), Dexter J. Farm (photographer), Joel Gambord (photographer), Juan-Carlos Gonzalez (painter), Juanita Griffin (photographer), Rod Heywood (photographer), Mark Monsarrat (painter), Bill Shewchuk (photographer), Michael Stansbury (photographer), Murray Wagnon (painter), Andy Williams (painter), Hailey Wood (photographer) and Steve Zmak (photographer).

Executive Director Paulette Lynch explains, “Our mission is to improve the quality of life for everyone in our region through the arts. This is a great project. Many of these artists find beauty and wonder in spaces we may have never noticed while others depict iconic spots in a brand new way. Meanwhile, proceeds help us ensure every child has access to the benefits of arts education.”

Many of the artists will be present at both receptions with their original artwork for the public to view. The 2018 Fine Arts Calendar will also be available for purchase at each event. The 2018 Fine Arts Calendar retails for $15 plus tax. Sales from the 2018 Fine Arts Calendar benefit the Arts Council for Monterey County’s educational programs.

All proceeds benefit the countywide youth arts education programs of the Arts Council for Monterey County.

To attend the Oct. 6 reception at the Monterey Coast Brewing Company, RSVP to [email protected] no later than noon on Oct. 6. To attend the Oct. 20 reception at the American Tin Cannery, RSVP to [email protected] no later than noon on Oct. 20.
