Delia R. Guerrero

Delia Guerrero – a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother – went to heaven on Sept. 9 while surrounded by her family.

Delia was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and came to California as a young woman. She was a resident of Soledad for 60 years before spending the final two years of her life in Modesto.

She worked in the agricultural industry for 50 years, working her way up from the fields to the packing sheds. Her favorite food was Chinese food. She was an excellent cook; her specialty was tortillas. Delia loved listening and dancing to mariachi music, enjoyed gardening, and was a devoted watcher of Mexican soap operas (novellas).

But what she enjoyed most of all was spending time with her family, including her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a loving grandma, little grandma and nanny.

One of Delia’s proudest moments was when she became an American citizen on Oct. 24, 1996.

Delia was preceded in death by sister Eva Ramirez and brother Ruben Guerrero. She is survived by her sisters: Lupe Jimenez of Calexico, Leonor Ramirez of Phoenix, Maria Jimenez of Gonzales, and Anita Gamez of Houston. Her children are Nancy Cuenca (Sal) of Turlock, Delia Magdaleno (Ernie) of Modesto, and Bobby Alvarado (Carol) of Soledad.

Her eight grandchildren are Desiree Cuenca Silva, Sal Cuenca (Shelley), Ernie Magdaleno (Inell), Amber Magdaleno, and Khayla, Khrissy, Zakry and Zaryk Alvarado. She has six great-grandchildren: Matthew and Paige Silva, Noah and Sarah Cuenca, and Ivan and Micah Magdaleno.

A rosary will be held on Monday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at Woodyard Funeral Home, 395 East St. in Soledad. A mass will be held Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Solitude, 235 Main St. in Soledad. Burial will be held at the Soledad Cemetery.

Arrangements by Woodyard Funeral Home, 395 East St, Soledad, CA (831) 678-9100 WoodyardFuneralHome.com
