PG&E, Girls Inc. to deliver renewable energy

Out of the 2,000 California youth who built clean energy kits as part of Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Solar Suitcase program this year, two students from Girls Inc. in Monterey County have been selected to deliver solar suitcases to energy-scarce communities in rural Ecuador this spring.

Saddle up for Ranch Rodeo competition

Monterey County Cattlemen’s Association (MCCA) and the Salinas Valley Fair (SVF) have teamed up to produce a Ranch Rodeo competition. The event will take place Sunday, Jan. 14, in the Rava Indoor Arena located at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.

Fire district obtains traffic safety grant

The South Monterey County Fire Protection District (SOMOCO) and the City of Soledad Fire Department partnered for a regional traffic safety grant and were awarded $70,000 for the purchase of electric powered extrication equipment with funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Six agencies came together on the evening of Dec. 13 to distribute over 500 presents and approximately 100 new bicycles to local children and their families at the South County YMCA.

Sun Street Centers to open substance abuse facility in King City

Substance abuse services, housing, a Residential Treatment Center and outpatient services are coming to King City and South County residents, thanks to a grant from Prop 47 funds.

Tractor trailer crash slows down 101

A tractor trailer full of broccoli took out 100 feet of guard railing and caused a single vehicle accident at about 6:30 p.m. last Friday on the Highway 101 northbound overpass.

Trained to help

Hot sausages were flying off the grill Saturday in Soledad at Bill Ramus Park for the sausage takeout barbecue to benefit the Soledad Police Department’s K-9 dogs, Huro and Leco. Local residents attended the event for a great lunch and to meet the pair of working dogs that are helping to keep Soledad a safer community.
