SOLEDAD — Pumpkins, treats, games and more will take over the South County YMCA on Walker Drive on Oct. 27 during the Halloween “Spooktacular” event.
“This is something that we started doing as an association for a free community event,” said Lulu Vargas, from the YMCA.
In previous years the South County YMCA events have included a haunted house, and this year took the route of being geared toward family-friendly activities. The “Spooktacular” will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
“The volunteers that are helping us are from the Soledad High School Interact Club,” said Vargas. “They’ll be helping us to do some of the activities with the kids.”
Providing the event with pumpkins is Higashi Farms in Salinas.
“They were able to give us three large bins of pumpkins so that we can give our families one pumpkin per family,” Vargas said. “They can come here and decorate them.”
The pumpkins can then be taken home for carving.
