South County graduates named Athletes of the Year

SOUTH COUNTY — King City graduate Megan Flores and Soledad High graduate Aaron Rodriguez were chosen by the Monterey County Herald as its 2017-2018 Athletes of the Year.

Flores was picked for being a standout four-sport athlete, and Rodriguez was a two-sport athlete for the Aztecs.

Flores was a start on the Lady Mustang volleyball, basketball and softball teams and threw the shot put and discus for the track and field teams. She was chosen as the King City Athlete of the Year and was on the All-County volleyball and basketball teams.

Rodriguez helped lead the Aztecs as a two-way player to last year’s Central Coast Section football championship and was an All-MTAL player in football and baseball this season. He played receiver and defensive back for the Soledad football team and was an infielder for the Aztecs baseball team that reached the CCS finals.

King City’s Clay Barbree was a candidate as Athlete of the Year as a football and baseball standout. Barbree was an All-League player in both sports. Gonzales High’s Pablo Villasenor, a junior athlete, was a candidate as a football, basketball player and as a member of the track and field team. Villasenor was All-League in football and basketball and league champion in the shot put and discus.
