SOLEDAD — Soledad’s newest police officer is a canine (K-9) unit, Huro, who is partnered with Officer Walter Tinay.
Huro is a year old German Shepherd Malamute mix and has spent nine weeks with Tinay.
“We’re still bonding,” Tinay said. “He is a dual purpose dog.”
Huro is trained to respond in robbery situations and narcotics qualified.
“We can also do vehicle searches, which he’s already done,” Tinay said.
Tinay completed a basic handlers course for five weeks to aid him in training Huro.
Huro was sworn into the Soledad Police Department on June 7 in front of the City Council, Soledad residents and fellow police officers.
