SOLEDAD — A nice crowd of Soledad residents and local and state officials joined representatives from Premiere Cinemas for the groundbreaking of the new movie theater complex at Nestles and Los Coches roads, across from Food Co.

Premiere Cinemas plans to open the eight-screen movie theater by fall 2020.

Soledad Mayor Fred Ledesma was pleased that the movie theater complex is being built, as he has many good memories from growing up in Soledad when there were two theaters.

“The theaters were a social hangout for kids, as there wasn’t much in Soledad then,” Ledesma said. “Our parents would give us 35 cents to get into the movies. It cost 25 cents to get in to the show and we had 10 cents left over to buy candy that would last us through the movies.”
