Soledad Mission Fiesta activities set for Sunday

SOUTH COUNTY — The 57th Annual Soledad Mission Fiesta is set for this Sunday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Soledad Mission.

Before the Fiesta festivities begin, there will be a mass service at the Mission starting at 10 a.m. Unfortunately, this year the Grape Stampede 5K/10K run or walk was canceled by the Soledad-Mission Recreation District due to lack of participants.

The smell of barbecued ribs will welcome the Mass and Fiesta goers at 11 a.m. The Fiesta is on the anniversary of the founding of the Soledad Mission.

“It raised money for all the things to keep the Soledad Mission running and open,” said Janie Headley, event committee member.

The Soledad Mission 4-H members run the soda booth and games for kids during the event, and booths for homemade arts and crafts will line the entrance to the dining and dancing area.

Silver Train will entertain the crowd with music. At 1 p.m. the 46th annual Grape Stomp takes place, with the wine and art auction following. The grapes that are stomped by seventh and eighth-grade students from the Mission School has been donated for 46 years by the Smith Family.

The wine for the wine auction is also donated by various wineries around the area.

Soledad Mission Fiesta committee is looking for new volunteers. Go to missionsoledad.com for more information.
