Sol Treasures presents ‘Aristocats’ next week

SOUTH COUNTY — Some talented students in King City are on stage and in rehearsal, preparing to entertain their families and friends with another children’s musical theater production.

Thirty-nine elementary school students are working with Sol Treasures’ Production Director and Set Designer Celestina Ripley practicing lines, songs and dances for a production of “The Aristocats, Kids.” The underlying message to the show is valuing family and supportive friendships.

Sol Treasures, a community center for the arts in King City, will host its 17th children’s theater production with “Aristocats.” Previous productions, such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Mary Poppins, Jr.,” “Seussical” and “Lion King, Jr.,” have delighted and entertained more than 50,000 individuals in South Monterey County. This show promises to be entertaining and family friendly, showcasing King City’s talented youth.

The cast will provide six performances at the Robert Stanton Theater, 720 Broadway St., in King City.

Three weekday morning shows from March 26 to 28 will be performed for more than 2,000 elementary school students in King City and school districts from Soledad to Bradley.

An additional three performances for the general public will be provided Friday, March 29, and Saturday, March 30, at 7 p.m.; a Sunday matinee show is scheduled for March 31 at 2 p.m.

Stage Manager Jamie Jones reports that there are many new faces in the musical this spring.

“They are new, but they are enthusiastic and very talented,” Jones says.

Janene Norum, production manager, remarks, “The sets and costumes are just as clever as always created and assembled by local volunteers John and Barbara Pekema.”

Sol Treasures’ President Sonia Chapa and the Sol Treasures Board of Directors invite everyone in King City and all of the valley to experience its highly acclaimed community theater. For ticket information, go to www.soltreasures.com or call 831-386-9809.

The Sol Treasures Children’s Musical Theater program provides access to opportunities to discover and nurture talents, expand creative skills, learn and share in individual and group settings, and participate in valued cultural events in familiar public surroundings. These experiences build skills, self-confidence and sense of community acceptance, a foundation to broadening individual potential and to creating a vibrant, engaged and cohesive community.

This Sol Treasures children’s theater production is made possible through contributions from local supporters and the Arts Council for Monterey County, Rita and Luis Echenique Charitable Foundation, Lightning in a Bottle, MOCA Foundation, Monterey County Gives and the STAR Foundation.
