SOLEDAD — Pyro Spectaculars Inc., the Fourth of July Committee and the Soledad Fire Department are working together to find a suitable location for this year’s city fireworks show.
According to committee member Pauline Tomasini, 2018 is the 21st year of the fireworks show. The show has been cancelled only three of those years.
Pyro Spectaculars Inc. has a new show producer for Central Valley, Jennifer Wait. Wait is a licensed pyrotechnic operator with over 15 years of experience in designing, producing and firing various ranges of firework shows.
“I am new to the job of show producer, but I am in no means new to doing fireworks,” Wait said. “I was informed that the committee needed a new site location.”
Before coming before the City Council on Feb. 7, Wait spent some time scouting out locations for safe discharge of fireworks. According to Wait, the amount of time a fireworks show lasts depends on the fireworks site and also how tall the fireworks show can be. Aiding Wait in finding a suitable show site was the Soledad Fire Department.
“I have the privilege of doing Las Vegas shows so we’ve done shows off of rooftops and fireworks areas where nothing can burn,” Wait said. “I’m hoping that we will be able to find someplace that would work well for the committee and city.”
Last year the fireworks show was cancelled due to lack of funding, and Wait said some of the show sites she has worked with have chosen to move its fireworks celebration to the weekend.
The prices of the fireworks show would be different if the city and Fourth of July Committee decided to move the show to the weekend because there are a limited number of show operators available for July 4, versus a weekend or earlier day show.
July 4 falls on a Wednesday this year.
