Second resident dies from coronavirus in Monterey County

Confirmed cases increase to 42 in latest report

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Health Department reported the county’s second death of a resident from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday.

No other information about the individual has been released.

As of the health department’s latest report, there are now 42 confirmed cases of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Monterey County, and at least seven of them appear to have been acquired locally through community transmission.

Ten of the cases are travel-related, 15 are from person-to-person transmission and the other 10 are under investigation. The county’s first death of a resident due to complications from the coronavirus was reported March 21.

As of March 30, Monterey County Health Department’s Public Health Laboratory has completed COVID-19 testing for 616 people.
