SOLEDAD — Historical Society Museum is open during Farmer’s Markets on Soledad Street on Thursday evenings.
“We have a MOU with the school district so we try to put on displays to help the schools,” President Craig Stephens said. “This display is designed for the fourth-grade standards and we meet the California History Social Fourth Grade Standards.”
The Historical Society Museum starts its display with the California Native Americans, Rancheros and Farmers and, according to Stephens, every fourth-grade class from the Soledad Unified School District has come through the museum.
A different display, “The Schools of Yesteryear,” is specifically targeted toward first-grade students because it is one of the curriculum standards where the students compare and contrast what schools used to look like and what they look like now.
That display also goes to Gonzales.
“We are trying to branch out a little bit because we want people to see it,” Stephens said.
The museum features the history of the area, including the missions, important historical figures and even information about the Spreckels Sugar Factory.
The Soledad Historical Society has been around for 11 years and has been hosting the Certified Farmer’s Market for the past six years. The last day of the Farmer’s Market is Oct. 12.
