REACH FOR THE STARS

SOUTH COUNTY — South County football players took the field for one last time high school players last Friday at the 33rd Annual All-Star High School Football Game at Rabobank Football Stadium in Salinas. Six players from Soledad, two players from Greenfield, two from King City, and one from Gonzales High participated in the game.

With over 70 players on the roster, the squads were split into two teams with the players from Soledad, King City and Greenfield on team Operation Give Back, and Gonzales player Hernan Mojica on the National Football Foundation team.

The two teams practiced together leading up to Friday’s game under the guidance of head Coach Steve Zenk from Central Coast Section (CCS) Champion Salinas High Cowboys and head Coach Jubenal Rodriguez of CCS Champion Gilroy High Mustangs.

Playing from Soledad were: Emanuel Ortega, running back; Robbie SantaAna, quarterback; Aaron Rodriguez, defensive back; Geronimo Serrano, center; David Cruz, lineman; and Ulises Uribe, linebacker and kicker. Clay Barbree of King City played offense and defense and teammate Luis Luna played defense. Brayan Ceballos of Greenfield saw time at receiver and teammate Victor Compean played linebacker. Mojica represented Gonzales High as a receiver.

The game ended in a 15-15 tie, with proceeds going to Operation Give Back and the National Football Foundation.
