SOLEDAD — A new road has opened in Soledad, promising an easier way for drivers to get from the eastern part of the city to Metz Road and Third Street.
Orchard Lane has been extended and features connections to Metz Road and Third Street. The new extension takes the roadway right by San Vicente Elementary School and will serve as a connector to the anticipated new Hartnell College site and the Century homes.
“It’s been planned for the last 15-plus years,” said Community Services Director Brent Slama. “As development has grown, we have continued to extend Orchard Lane.”
Orchard Lane is one of the requirements that Century Communities had to meet for development. The extension is anticipated to aid traffic and the circulation of the community.
Orchard Lane was diverted slightly by San Vicente Elementary School, which explains why the lane curves when meeting up with Third Street.
Orchard Lane, Metz Road and Third Street now meet in a four-way stop.
On the opposite side of the city, at Moranda Road and Front Street, the Stormwater Recharge Project is partially completed with no further road work needed. Work will continue on the private property on the agricultural side of the roadway.
