SOLEDAD — Front Street is about to get a new stop light at its intersection with East Street, and the ACE Hardware parking lot will be paved in the upgrade.
The new light at Front and East streets will be a four-way signal.
“We are finally able to make the dirt lot beside ACE Hardware into a paved parking lot,” said Public Works Director and City Engineer Donald Wilcox. “The railroad tracks prevent East Street from ever being extended.”
According to Wilcox, the Front and East streets project will also include adding a left turn lane from southbound Front onto East Street. The City of Soledad has contracted out the design of the traffic signal to Yamabe and Horn, a traffic engineering firm. The low bid for the construct of the traffic signal was awarded to Monterey Pacific Engineering.
“Construction will take about a month for substantial completion, but the disruption to traffic will be minimal,” said Wilcox. “Any traffic restrictions will be done at off-peak times and there really isn’t that much work in the streets.”
The project was scheduled to start Jan. 16, but a delay was expected due to the late delivery of the poles.
