New fee schedule approved by City Council

SOLEDAD — City of Soledad has approved a new fee schedule for the Regional Development Impact Fees on Nov. 7.

“The purpose of this program is to address the transportation impacts of new development on the Regional Transportation System,” said TAMC Executive Director Debbie Hale. “The City has its own fee program to address the impacts on the local transportation system.”

The new transportation fee is based on the new development and the impact on regional roads, such as Highway 101 south of Salinas.

The Regional Development Impact Fee program was last updated in 2013, and this is the five-year update of that fee schedule.

When all the cities have approved the Regional Development Impact Fees, it will be submitted to the Transportation Agency of Monterey County and would go toward new programs, such as the Highway 101 south of Salinas project.

“Due to some changes in the project mix and changes in development in this area, the fee for South County will go down from $230 per peak hour trip to $197,” Hale said. “A peak hour trip for a single family is estimated to be about 10 trips.”

The new development impact fee is one time only, she said.

Soledad City Council approved the new impact fees with a motion by Mayor Pro-Tem Alejandro Chavez, a second by Carla Stewart and a unanimous approval from the rest of the council.
