SOLEDAD — Local members from the 2017-18 Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) Club competed at the annual MESA competition at UC Santa Cruz on March 3.
The members put hours upon hours of hard work on their projects, and it is the club’s privilege to announce its 2018 winners.
First-place winners are: Leslie Macias, Emilio Diaz, Brian Chavez, and Skylah Fregoso for Greenfoot. Jessica Herrera, Juan Fregoso and Emilio Diaz for Think Tank; as well as Belen Torres, Jerianne Balino and Angela Mora for RoboRide.
Second-place winners are: Robert Guillen, Julio Lara and Naizah Hernandez for RoboRide; Julio Lara, Elise Melchor and Jessica Herrera for Civil Structures; and Julisa Tinajero, Athena Lopez and Arilene Rios for Prosthetic Arm.
Third-place winners are: Angela Alfaro, Graciela Chavez and Cristina Alfaro for Civil Structures.
Apart for the individual winners, the Soledad High School MESA Club was awarded the Spirit Award for the members’ outstanding sportsmanship.
They will now proceed to the regional round and compete against schools from four different regions at UC Santa Barbara on April 21.
