SOLEDAD — A six-game league win streak ended for the Soledad boys basketball team as the lost 69-53 last Friday at home against the first-place Carmel Padres. The Aztecs fell to 7-4 in the Mission Trail Athletic League after the loss and are now 10-11 overall.

“We went back and forth with Carmel for three and a half quarters,” said Soledad head coach Nick Twitchell. “They (Padres), went on a 14-4 run to close the game and pulled away.”

Soledad shooting guard Beto Tinajero led Soledad with 20 points and Isaac Lopez joined his teammate in double figures with 14 points.

In their first game of the week on Jan. 29 the Aztecs defeated visiting Greenfield High, 59-42. Tinajero led Soledad with 17 points and Billy Hollman added 16 points.

On Jan. 31 the Aztecs won at King City 71-53. Hollman led all scorers with 26 points and was joined in double figures in scoring by Tinajero with 15 points, Lopez with 11 points, and Gabriel Burgoz with 12 points.

“King City was a good game for us on Wednesday,” said Coach Twitchell. “We played fast and aggressively and were able to jump out to a big lead and see it out.”

The Aztecs traveled to Pebble Beach to play Robert Louis Stevenson yesterday and will play at Pacific Grove tomorrow night.
