SOUTH COUNTY — A pair of league wins and a non-league victory has the red-hot Soledad Aztec baseball with a 16-4-1 overall record and 12-1-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League. The Aztecs beat the Marina Mariners on the road and at home and beat the Harbor Pirates 6-1 in Santa Cruz County.
Soledad beat Marina 17-0 on the Monterey Peninsula and swept the two-game series with a 17-0 victory on Friday on the Aztec diamond. Ben Pajas pitched five innings to earn the win in the home game and helped his own cause with two doubles and a triple. Joseph Calderon had three hits and three runs batted in and Isaac Lopez continued to hit the ball well with four hits.
Last Thursday at Harbor High the Aztecs score a run in the top of the first, three runs in the fourth inning, and completed their scoring with a two-run seventh inning. Soledad began a home and away series yesterday with the Greenfield Bruins and complete the league season next week with a home and away series against the Pacific Grove Breakers.
Carmel is in second place in the MTAL at 11-3 behind Soledad and King City is in third place at 10-3-1. Pacific Grove is in fourth place in league at 9-5.
