SOLEDAD — Celeste Parra and Angela Morea hit a pair of doubles and Sarah Gonzalez pitched five strong innings as the Soledad High softball team beat the host Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates 9-3 last Wednesday in Pebble Beach. The win was the third Mission Trail Athletic League victory of the season for the Lady Aztecs.
Gonzalez received pitching help from Alize Duarte in the sixth inning. Evelina Ramirez hit a double and was credited with an RBI, and shortstop Celeste Parra made a great play at shortstop to end a bases loaded Pirate rally.
Soledad began the week with a 13-2 non-league setback against the North Salinas Vikings Monday in Soledad. The loss was tough for Soledad as they lost catcher Jenny Garcia on a play at home plate and will be lost for a couple of weeks.
“You never want to see someone get hurt,” said Soledad head coach Joel Ramirez. “Jenny is an important player in our lineup and everyone will have to step up their play with her out.”
Skylah Fregoso had two hits in the game for Soledad, including a double. Garcia had one hit before leaving the game and Victoria Canchola added a basehit. Ramirez and Parra contributed to the Soledad offense with a pair of doubles. Sarah Gonzales took the pitching loss.
On Friday the Lady Aztecs were beaten 6-3 at home by the Pacific Grove Breakers. The game was tied at 2-2 until the fourth inning when the Breakers scored a few runs.
