SOUTH COUNTY — Mostafa Ghous has taken over as dean of South County education services at Hartnell College’s King City Education Center, replacing Renata Funke, who retired from the position.

Ghous will now lead the college’s expansion efforts taking place in South County, including the new Soledad campus and the 10,000-square-foot addition to the King City Education Center that will nearly double the size of the existing facility on Second Street.

“We are very excited to have Dean Ghous join us and lead the expansion efforts in South County. He has already demonstrated a strong commitment to Hartnell, the students and the communities we serve,” said Lori Kildal, vice president of academic affairs.

Before joining Hartnell, Ghous previously worked as the East County Campus Director at Everett Community College in Everett, Wash. He has also served as the director of campus life and student activities at Berkeley City College, managing its outreach and
retention services, student leadership initiatives, community relations, faculty and student events and district-wide diversity efforts.

Ghous has a master’s degree in educational administration and leadership with an emphasis in student affairs from the University of the Pacific and a bachelor’s degree in information systems management from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Ghous said he is excited to “come back home to the Bay Area.” He currently lives in Salinas with his wife and their 7-month-old daughter.
