SOLEDAD — Students at Rose Ferrero Elementary embraced Dr. Seuss by having a “Read Across Rose Ferrero” day on March 1.
“It’s just a day that celebrates books and reading,” Principal Tommy Frank said. “We’re really big into promoting literacy.”
The students arrived to school in their most comfortable attire — pajamas and blankets. Mayor Fred Ledesma, local firefighters and school district staff read to different grade levels throughout the school day.
Along with the reading came an activity for sixth-grade students to interview first graders and kindergarteners about books.
Dr. Seuss, born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March 2, 1904, is the author of 60 books and was a cartoonist. Seuss died Sept. 24, 1991.
