Feedback sought on police services

SOUTH COUNTY — A new police survey was sent out to residents of Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield and King City on Aug. 21 as part of the Strengthening Law Enforcement and Community Relations grant.

The survey is about 13 questions, ranging from asking about police officers’ response times and problem solving to making the cities a better place to live and asking if residents are willing to call police to report a crime that is occurring in their neighborhood.

The grant was sponsored by the California Board of State and Community Corrections and is distributed by the Four Cities United Initiative.

The four South County police departments are asking for the surveys to be returned by Sept. 28.

“It’s the second survey we’ve done,” said City of Gonzales Special Projects Director Mark Hartunian. “The questions are somewhat the same to see if the attitude has changed or what the reflection is from the community.”

According to Hartunian, the City of Gonzales has had a really good response to the survey submitted. The surveys from all four South County cities are sent to the Monterey County Health Department, which evaluates the program and analyzes the surveys that come in.
