Elementary principal gets dunked by readers

SOLEDAD — San Vicente Elementary School Principal Jaime Calderon made a deal with his students at the beginning of the year: If they stayed above 85 percent in Accelerated Reading as a school, he would get dunked in a Dunk Tank.

Calderon delivered on his promise, as students who excelled in reading had the chance to throw a ball and hit a target, dunking him in water. The school had an average of 86.7 percent.

The top AR point earner in the entire school district was a student at San Vicente, sixth-grader Ava Ceja, who read over 100 books this school year, with the largest being “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
