Dole donates $54K for scoreboards

SOLEDAD — Three new scoreboards have been added to the construction project for Gallardo Park, courtesy of the Dole Fresh Vegetables Inc.

According to Public Works Director Donald Wilcox, the park is coming along and experienced some delays with PG&E that pushed the project back from completion in October.

“We sent out a request for a business in the area to participate in donations,” said Wilcox. “We received two, one from Santa Elena Mobile Home Park and then an amazing one from Dole.”

Director of Cooler Operations Hugo Villagomez, Operations Manager Juan Trujillo, Director of Manufacturing Dan Doyle from Dole attended the Feb. 7 Soledad City Council meeting to present the company’s donation for the scoreboards.

“Dole has been in the Salinas Valley for 24 years,” Villagomez said. “Unfortunately, we haven’t had our presence really felt in the community, but we’re changing that. To begin with we’d like to offer the $54,000 for three scoreboards to Gallardo Park project.”

Villagomez and the team at Dole are hoping that the park donation will be the start of the partnership with the City of Soledad and the community. Dole is also planning to participate in the Fourth of July parade this year.

“Thank you for your response,” said Mayor Fred Ledesma. “I really appreciate Dole and the effort you are making.”
