County to host cannabis forum

SOUTH COUNTY — Monterey County is asking residents for their thoughts on how potential cannabis tax revenue should be spent.

In 2016, Monterey County voters approved a tax on legal cannabis. There may be excess revenue above program operating costs from the tax this year or in the future, which could be spent on local programs.

In a series of community forums during the month of March, residents can talk with their elected officials about how the county could prioritize use of these funds. There will be forums in each of the county’s five supervisorial districts, and residents are welcome to attend these meetings.

Translation services will be provided and light refreshments will be served.

In South County, the meeting will take place Wednesday, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the King City Recreation Center, 401 Division St., in King City.

In addition, as part of the county’s community outreach regarding cannabis tax revenue funds, an online survey is now available for residents to share their thoughts about prioritizing any excess money from this tax. A direct link to the survey is on the county homepage www.co.monterey.ca.us or on the county’s Facebook page.

Results of this survey, along with data collected from a recent telephone poll on the same topic, and information from the series of community forums will be presented to the Board of Supervisors next month.
