County supervisor breaks ground on new office

SOUTH COUNTY — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez is opening up a new office in Greenfield as part of The Vines at Greenfield Shopping Center.

Lopez and his staff celebrated the news with a groundbreaking ceremony last Thursday, June 20.

Greenfield Mayor Lance Walker said he felt that having Lopez’s office located in Greenfield is something this area has needed for a long time.

“Good things are happening in Greenfield,” Walker said. “The future looks bright.”

Lopez’s office is part of a development led by Max Baccera from Maximus III. Buildings in the development area aim to have a Monterey County feel to them and incorporate the local vineyards.

Supporting Lopez’s efforts were former District 3 Supervisor Simon Salinas and County Supervisor Luis Alejo.

“Working with somebody like Max and finding this site where development is happening is great,” Lopez said.

“This is the heart of the valley for many reasons, it is the geographic center of this district,” Lopez added, “and for some folks, we are still an hour away.”

Lopez’s goal with bringing a supervisor office to Greenfield is to be as accessible as possible.

“I’m going to continue to push for additional resources,” he said.

Lopez is hoping Behavioral Health Services will join him in Greenfield as well as the Agricultural Commission.

Lopez, who has roots in King City and Greenfield, said the office will not be a satellite office but a home base for him and his team. The new office will be located at 365 Walnut Ave. in Greenfield, behind the new Arco gas station.
