Celebrate summer harvest at Family Farm Day, June 10

SUBMITTED ARTICLE

SALINAS — The Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association (ALBA) will host a Family Farm Day on Saturday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1700 Old Stage Road near Salinas.

On this day, the community is invited to visit the organic ranch, nestled in the heart of the Salinas Valley. The event includes the opportunity to harvest fresh seasonal produce alongside local family farmers while learning about sustainable agricultural practices and our unique non-profit organization.

There will be bilingual tours around the ranch with impressive views of the local farmland and mountain ranges. Guests will also be able to purchase a bounty of freshly harvested organic vegetables and strawberries, juices from Green Thumb Organic Farms, oils and honey from Las Lomas Lavender, and authentic Oaxacan food cooked to order. Children will enjoy activities like tractor hayrides, mural painting, live art and a bouncy house.

Visitors are encouraged to bring cash and re-usable bags for produce purchases. This is the only summer harvest celebration of the year, so don’t miss it.

ALBA is at 1700 Old Stage Road south of Salinas. Heading south on Highway 101, turn left on Potter Road, then right on Old Stage Road. Turn right at the ALBA sign and follow the signs into the farm.

ALBA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps aspiring and beginning farmers — primarily immigrant farmworkers — start and grow their own organic farm businesses.
