SOLEDAD — The City of Soledad is looking for candidates for the planning commission.
“Members of the Planning Commission are nominated by the mayor with the consent of the council,” said Community and Economic Development Director Brent Slama.
The Planning Commission vacancy term ends in April 2018. There were no applicants at the City Council meeting in July.
“We are short one,” Slama said. “She served us for about three years and we appreciate her service.”
The Planning Commission makes land use approvals, subdivisions and environmental documents. Commissioners also make recommendations to the City Council on revisions to the General Plan, Ordinances and special documents.
The Soledad Planning Commission meets every second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Special and joint meetings are occasionally held with the City Council and other policy-making bodies. Planning Commission applicants must live within the Soledad city limits.
The City Council also suggested posting the vacancy on social media sites; the posting is already up on the City of Soledad website www.cityofsoledad.com.
Slama hopes to have more names of Planning Commission applicants next month.
Applications are available on the City of Soledad website or at City Hall, 248 Main St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
