SOLEDAD — Rose Ferrero students took time to visit with residents of Eden Valley Care Center on Valentine’s Day.
The sixth graders made Valentine’s Day cards for the residents and “adopted a grandparent,” who they visited with Thursday morning. The idea of “Adopt a Grandparent” came from a conversation between sixth-grade teacher Amanda Bassetti and Activity Director Pamela Hernandez.
“It had just bloomed to where the students are going to try to come in once a month, be paired up with residents to read to, visit with them, do artwork with them,” Hernandez said. “Whatever they want to do.”
Two residents, Dolores Migotti and Francis Rubbo, interacted with the students by talking with them.
“It think it’s really nice,” Migotti said. “They all look so perky and say ‘hellos’. They’re doing really good.”
Rubbo echoed Migotti’s statements and said it was nice to see the students. One of the students came with a few jokes up her sleeve.
Student Alexa Rucho’s older sister told her about preparing some jokes and Rucho came with a joke about a Mama Tomato and Baby Tomato that made several residents laugh. Rucho said she especially enjoyed visiting with the residents because some don’t have that many visitors and were very welcoming to her and her classmates.
“I like being here at Eden Valley,” said student Damon Perez. “I love the elderly. I like how they are kind, how they have experience. And I like making them happy.”
