Construction underway on new housing

SOLEDAD — Construction is underway for a new housing development for 12 apartments and six townhouses on the corner of Vista De Soledad and San Vicente Road.

The new development, named Vista Pointe, will be part of a gated community with parking spaces for the residents. Developers approached the City of Soledad for a permit this past summer.

Vista Pointe is 1.5 acres of property from the Guillermo and Angela Nieto Family. The apartments will have two bedrooms each, and the townhouses are expected to be two stories.

Vista Pointe is located within walking distance of the Veterans Park and is within 3/4 of a mile from the nearest elementary school and Soledad High School.

The project is anticipated to serve needs for medium density multi-family units. It is also part of the City’s General Plan Housing Element to meet the affordable housing needs.

The Nieto Family application indicates that 30 percent of the project would be designated for employees of the Soledad Unified School District.

The townhouses will have two-car garages at the back of each of the buildings. The parking for the apartments includes two covered parking units.

The area between the apartments and townhouses will be filled with a landscaped courtyard and picnic arbor, landscaped front and side yards and landscaping for the public strip of San Vicente Road.

The parking standard went before the Planning Commission and saw that 41 spaces would be required for the property, but 62 spaces were proposed.
