Aztec boys crush Condors

SOLEDAD — An 11-1 non-league win over the North Monterey County Condors last Friday helped the Soledad Aztec baseball improve to 16 wins and three losses for the season.

Soledad is the first team in the tri-county area with 16 wins.

Aaron Rodriguez was the Aztecs hitting star with four basehits and teammate Anthony Ramirez led the team in power hitting with three doubles. 

Chris Villarreal contributed with two hits and Ben Pajas added two hits of his own. Soledad pitcher Adrian Lopez earned the victory on the mound and finished with six strikeouts.

Soledad improved to 10-2 in the Mission Trail Athletic League with 27-1 and 16-2 wins over the Marina Mariners.

In the 27-1 slugfest Joel Barroso threw a no-hitter to earn the pitching win. Isaac Lopez had two hits, Ben Pajas had two hits and three runs batted in and Jakub Melendrez led the Aztecs with three hits and five RBI’s.

Today at Hartnell College the Aztecs will play the Alisal High School Trojans in a non-league game. On Friday Soledad will host the Santa Cruz Cardinals. On April 25 and 29, the Aztecs will return to MTAL play in an away and home series with the Greenfield High Bruins.
