SOLEDAD — The Shoe and Sock Drive returns to Soledad once again this year to collect socks, shoes, coats and more for students at San Vicente School.
“It started as a jacket drive in the winter,” said founder Lucy Jensen. “San Vicente School approached me because my daughter went there.”
Jensen had been bringing in jackets and coats that had been donated and was shown a pair of shoes missing its sole and had been worn by one of the students at the school without socks.
The Shoe and Sock Drive is year round and especially for the “Back to School” season, and a second push will occur in January.
Jensen is looking for help with shoes and socks as well as hoodies because mornings are usually chilly. The shoe sizes in need are new or gently-used children size 10 up to adult size 6 or 7 for boys and girls. Monetary donations are also accepted for those who don’t want to shop.
There are two drop-off locations for the Shoe and Sock Drive, either call Jensen at 229-0663, email her at [email protected] or go to Esparza’s Insurance Agency, 640 Front St., open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Shoes, socks, coats, hoodies and other items are distributed to the students discreetly and in a one-on-one situation.
